Fox Valley Symphony offering free admission to music teachers
September 16, 2008
APPLETON – Music teachers will now have the opportunity to attend any Fox Valley Symphony (FVS) subscription concert free-of-charge thanks to a new FVS community awareness program.
“Extending free tickets to music teachers helps fulfill the symphony’s mission to provide the community with quality music, as well as performance and educational opportunities for area musicians,” said FVS executive director Marta Weldon.
“Music teachers play an essential role in our community – teaching and sharing with our children their love of music. This is just one way to reward them for what they do,” Weldon said. “Our hope is that music teachers will find inspiration from our concerts to share with students and deepen their own appreciation for music.”
The new promotion begins as the FVS launches its 42nd season with an Oct. 4 concert featuring Van Cliburn Gold Medalist Alexander Kobrin. Teachers must show their ID at the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center (P.A.C.) box office to receive a complimentary ticket to the concert.
The FVS is also extending an offer of $10 tickets for all students attending one of the Symphony’s concert at the P.A.C. Students must show a valid student ID to be eligible for this promotion. An adult must accompany students under the age of 18. The student tickets will be available 60 minutes before the performance at the box office.
In addition to the FVS performance on Oct. 4 with Alexander Kobrin, the 2008-09 season includes a Nov. 8 concert featuring guitarist Robert Belinic’, a jazzy tribute to Louis Armstrong featuring trumpet player Byron Stripling on Jan. 31, Lawrence University assistant professor and violin virtuoso Wen-Lei Gu on April 4 and a concert production of Bizet’s famed opera “Carmen” featuring the White Heron Chorale on May 16.
The Fox Valley Symphony’s mission is to enrich and nurture the human spirit through symphonic music and educational opportunities than enhance the cultural development of our community. Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is the 2008-09 season underwriter and Time Warner Cable, DMiNTERACTIVE and WBAY-TV are season media sponsors.
