Jennifer Hodges Bryan
became a member of the Fox Valley Symphony in 1999 and was awarded the principal oboist position in 2007. She also performs as a regular member of the Wisconsin Symphonic Winds, the Manitowoc Symphony and Racine Symphony. Jennifer’s love of performing has made her a sought after sub for several other groups around the state including the Sheboygan and Kenosha Symphonies, Wisconsin Philharmonic and Wisconsin Wind Orchestra.
In addition to orchestras, Jennifer has performed with several choral groups both as an orchestra member or soloist. She performed as a soloist with the Badger State Girl Choir for their performance at Carnegie Hall in 2014.
Another one of Jennifer’s loves is performing with touring Broadway shows at the Fox Cities PAC. She has had very rewarding experiences playing for shows like My Fair Lady, Wicked and Mary Poppins.
Jennifer also enjoys working with young people as demonstrated by her years of private teaching, as the woodwind sectional coach for the Fox Valley Youth Symphony and as a co-developer of programming for the FVS/newVoices Masterworks Outreach series that visits after-school youth programs in the community.
In 2014, Jennifer wanted to strengthen her skills as both a solo and chamber performer so she started her own summer recital series called “Lunchtime Oboe Recitals”. The series includes three to five summer recitals featuring solo oboe and oboe chamber works. In addition to classic repertoire, Jennifer enjoys finding and programming lesser known melodically-focused contemporary works for these recitals.
In 2017, Jennifer was chosen to perform a recital for the International Double Reed Convention. Her “Not Your Ordinary Oboe Quartet” recital featured contemporary works by Henry Cowell, Jenni Brandon and premiered a work by local composer, Aaron Zinsmeister.
In 2017, Jennifer also released her first CD recording entitled, “Appassionata”, which featured several members of the Fox Valley Symphony.
Jennifer has a BM degree in oboe performance from Lawrence University where she studied with Howard Niblock and later continued her studies with John Snow, principal oboist of the Minnesota Orchestra.
