Partners In Education

The Fox Valley Symphony is dedicated to bringing live symphonic music to our area youth. We bring the classroom portion of the PIE program free of charge to participating schools in the Fox Valley and beyond. The FVSO works in partnership with the Trout Museum of Art (formerly the Appleton Art Center) to provide classroom teachers the tools needed to connect their academic subjects with the themes and ideas of our program.

We reach more than 1,200 third-grade students each year by visiting classrooms and presenting the PIE concepts in a fun and informative manner. The students then attend a concert in the spring at the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center. Our goal is to make music and visual art a part of the students' everyday lives.

Timeline
  • Fall (November). FVSO musicians travel to participating schools and instruct students about the concert repertoire with a fun, interactive presentation that weaves music into the everyday classroom environment.

  • Winter (February). FVSO string quartet musicians will visit classrooms in winter to demonstrate musical concepts the students have learned. The quartet will play some of the musical excerpts from the concert and will include interactive activities.

  • November/December/January. Participating art teachers will implement the art project from a lesson plan created by the Trout Museum of Art. Art instructors will be provided to those schools who do not have an art teacher at their school.

  • Concert. The program culminates in March with a concert on Monday, March 19, 2012, at the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center. This year, students will hear other talented students from the Fox Valley Youth Symphony perform the concert under the direction of our new Youth Orchestra conductor (TBA). They will see their artwork displayed and hear the music studied in a live performance Students also have the opportunity to hear a performance by the Fox Valley Symphony Youth Soloist Competition winner at the concert.

History Of Partners In Education (PIE)
The FVS Partners in Education (PIE) program began in 1991 thanks to a generous contribution by former Symphony League member Bettyjo Heckrodt. It has continued through grants and contributions from individuals and corporate "Adopt-a-Classroom" sponsorships throughout the Fox Valley. "Adopt-a-Classroom" is a partnership in which local businesses "adopt" specific schools in their area who participate in PIE. The FVSO is extremely grateful to the Adopt-a-Classroom season sponsors. They are what make the classroom component of this program completely free of charge to participating schools.
