Groner has discovered two rare talents in our guest artists for this concert. 10-year-old David Hou from Buffalo Grove, Ilinois began learning piano at the age of 5. David is winner of the 2009-2010 Walgreens national Concerto Competition Junior Open Piano division and the 2011 Chicago Steinway Solo Competition. David performs regularly in the MYA Sunday Soiree at Ravinia’s Bennet-Gordon Hall. Kitsho Hosotani began violin studies at the age of 4. Kitsho will make his orchestral solo debut with the Chicago Youth Symphony Concert Orchestra in the Fall of 2011. Both our child prodigies will astound our audiences. We are delighted to have the support of so many music teachers and their students for this concert.
Contrasting the “new” of the concert are two presentations of one of the most popular fictional characters in history. Mozart’s opera Don Giovanni is probably the most well-known musical version of the story but Strauss, too, paints the entire story of Don Juan’s adventures as a rogue. The music is wild and another feather in FVSO’s cap with this premiere performance.
